Innovations and expertise from Germany are highly valued and sought after internationally. And not just among customers and business partners. German companies are increasingly becoming victims of espionage attacks or white-collar crime. However, few small and medium-sized companies - regardless of the sector - immediately think about protecting innovative business models or new technologies against hackers and other attackers. To protect small and medium-sized companies in particular, the German government launched the Economic Protection Initiative in 2016.
The initiative is primarily aimed at raising awareness and prevention. The basic idea is more effective cooperation between security authorities and business organisations, such as the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) and the Federation of German Industries (BDI).
The central component is an information portal on which all offers from the security authorities are collected. In addition to general information and further links on topics such as security when travelling on business, cybercrime and industrial espionage, various publications are also available for download. Available, for example, is the Business Protection Guide, which provides an overview of the areas of a company that are particularly worthy of protection, or the Basic Business Protection Handbook, which provides specific recommendations for action and guidance on protecting companies.
After prior registration, users are given access to a special user area with further information available on the website. There they can also exchange information with other users and contact the initiative's experts if they have any questions.
In addition to information on interesting conferences and training courses, the initiative also offers its own two-day seminar entitled "Protecting business data - preparing for emergencies", which takes place at regular intervals.
